Senior guard Tyler Dorsey sank 42 points to continue his hot streak during Maranatha High School’s (6-7, 1-0) home league opener against visitors Village Christian (15-5, 0-1), leading the home team to a 69-64 win Tuesday night in Pasadena.
“I went into the last five games with the same attitude,” said the Maranatha senior guard, who has scored a total 202 points in his last five games. “The rim was just getting bigger and bigger.”
The senior also grabbed 11 rebounds for the night, and shot 65 percent in the paint for the Minutemen. Junior guard Sean Romero also ended the night in double-digits for Maranatha, scoring 11 points for the night, While Village Christian senior Bennie Boatwright, Jr. led the Crusaders with 27 points. “It was a big win for
us,” said Maranatha head coach Tim Tucker, whose side overcame a halftime deficit. “We had foul trouble with the bigs at first, but I just told them to get back to attacking and play defense.”
